Starting in 2019, Russian journalists and officials opted to use the word "clap" instead of "explosion" to erase any negative connotations associated with disaster and loss of life. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, any mention of an explosion or a missile strike is almost always replaced by clap in Russian Newspeak. Many such graffiti are aimed at showing that the clean and banal words conceal a terrible reality.
Начиная с 2019 года российские журналисты и чиновники предпочитают вместо слово "взрыв" использовать "хлопок", чтобы исчезли все негативные коннотации, связанные с гибелью людей и катастрофой. С началом российского вторжения в Украину в российском новоязе практически всегда любое упоминание взрыва или удара ракетой заменяется на хлопок.
