Nanoprotest is a form that since 2012 has become widespread in Russia, first appearing in Apatity, Murmansk. Anonymous artists assemble very small figures of people and animals (often using characters from pop culture), giving them protest signs and placing them in public places. The small size of the figurines and their explicit "toy-like" nature emphasize the impossibility of speaking out against the government at any significant scale or volume. Nanoprotest’s ultimate message is that "Toys protest when people can’t.”

Маленький размер фигурки, ее подчернутая "игрушечность" подчеркивает невозможность выступать массово и громко."Игрушки протестуют, потому что люди уже не могут" — так можно бы сформулировать послание, заложенное в нанопротесте.
